It really does pay to read the reviews, and on this occasion I wish I had. We travelled as a family of four – two adults and two children aged 2 and 10 – and unfortunately our holiday got off to the worst possible start. As soon as we walked into reception, there was a stale, musty smell, and people were asleep on the sofas. We arrived at 11am and were told our room wouldn't be ready until 2pm. The hotel did allow us to store our luggage, so we went out for a drink while we waited. When we returned at 2pm, we were still left waiting. Eventually we were given a room, only to discover it hadn't even been cleaned. The beds, sheets, bathroom – everything was dirty. The air conditioning didn't work either, and in 31°C heat it was unbearable. I refused to unpack because I knew I didn't want to stay in that room. The hotel was incredibly noisy. We expected some noise, but it was full of large groups of teenagers who had no respect for the families staying there. It felt more like an 18–30s party hotel than somewhere suitable for children. Breakfast wasn't terrible and there was a reasonable choice of food, but we only ate there once because we had to search for clean plates before we could even serve ourselves. To make matters worse, there was phlegm in the lift that remained there for the three days we stayed. It was absolutely disgusting and showed a complete lack of cleanliness. The worst part was when my 2-year-old daughter was pushed by a teenager and banged her head. He showed no concern whatsoever, and we ended up taking her to the doctor to get checked over. When we raised our concerns, the Jet2 rep spoke to reception staff while they kept looking over at us, which made us feel very uncomfortable. We certainly weren't the only family complaining either. The whole experience became so upsetting that I ended up in tears and just wanted to go home. After countless conversations, emails and phone calls with Jet2, they agreed to move us to the Htop Amatista, which was a huge relief (I'll leave a separate review for that hotel). One thing that really disappointed us was that my partner was asked to sign a document stating that if we were moved, he wouldn't take legal action. We were told that if he didn't sign it, we wouldn't be allowed to move hotels. He signed because we felt we had no choice, but he also wrote on the form that he did not agree with the condition. I could say much more, but I think this says enough. I understand that you often get what you pay for, but no family should have to endure an experience like this. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone travelling with children.
