We stayed at Wenceslas Square following a recommendation, but unfortunately it was a real disappointment. The hotel feels tired, dated and very basic, certainly not what we expected. Breakfast was particularly poor, with limited choices and food that was far from appetising. Unless you fancy peppers and onions for breakfast, don’t expect much. The lift was constantly broken, making carrying a 20kg suitcase up seven floors a real challenge. Following a complaint about the 80s throwback room with a bath in the middle (no proper shower) we were moved … a lovely young man who helped move our luggage does deserve a mention. The final straw was the rooftop bar, where an Aperol Spritz tasted like little more than soda water. When I politely asked for a little more Aperol, I was told I’d have to pay extra. Hardly great customer service. Overall, this felt more like an overpriced hostel than a hotel. We certainly wouldn’t return. Prague has far better places to stay, so I’d recommend looking elsewhere and doing your research.
We recently returned from a three-night stay at Wenceslas Square Hotel in Prague, and unfortunately, the hotel was by far the most disappointing part of an otherwise fantastic trip. We booked a standard double or twin room, as clearly stated on our booking confirmation. However, on arrival, we were allocated Room 70, an attic room at the very top of the hotel. To make matters worse, the lift was broken, meaning we had to climb several flights of stairs with our luggage. The room itself was nothing like what we had booked or expected. The bathtub was actually situated in the bedroom, and the whole layout was bizarre! Interestingly, the hotel’s own website advertises attic rooms as a separate room category, so why were we allocated one when we had specifically booked a standard double or twin? We complained immediately and requested to be moved. Initially, we were told the hotel was fully booked, despite rooms still showing as available online. We were eventually moved to another room, which, although an improvement on Room 70, was extremely basic. Even more strangely, this room was accessed through a completely separate entrance from the main hotel. We were informed that residents also lived in the building and were instructed to keep the noise down! It felt rather odd to be paying for hotel accommodation, only to find ourselves staying in what felt more like a residential building. And then there was breakfast! The breakfast experience was equally disappointing. The choice of food was rather strange, with some items seeming more appropriate for lunch than breakfast. I actually ended up having a lovely salad for breakfast one morning – no joke! Not quite what I had in mind when looking forward to a hotel breakfast in Prague! The dining area was also incredibly cramped and overcrowded. Tables were packed closely together, and it felt as though everyone was squeezed in like sardines. It was extremely busy, uncomfortable and certainly not a relaxing way to start the day. The whole experience felt chaotic rather than enjoyable. Whilst we appreciated eventually being moved from the attic, the replacement room and breakfast facilities did little to improve our overall impression. Prague itself was absolutely wonderful, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the city, but unfortunately, the accommodation really let the trip down. A word of warning to future guests: I would strongly advise against accepting Room 70! Unless you specifically want an attic room with a bathtub in the bedroom and several flights of stairs to climb, insist on an alternative. I would also recommend checking exactly where your allocated room is situated, as you may find yourself in a separate building rather than the main hotel. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Poor room allocation, inadequate facilities, strange breakfast choices and an overcrowded dining area. Sadly, we would not recommend this hotel and certainly wouldn’t stay here again. Prague deserves better accommodation than this!
I was looking for a reasonably priced central hotel for 3 nights in Prague and this fit the bill perfectly. An excellent location, literally 1 minute walk to Wenceslas Square (sadly little more than a building site right now) and the National Museum. The decor and rooms are a little dated but perfectly adequate. Room 57 has no window, just a skylight (but I was only using it to sleep in!) but was very well equipped with a mini fridge, safe, TV and stand alone air conditioning, very welcome as it was very warm in Prague this week. Breakfasts are really good with a wide variety of both hot and cold items. There is a rooftop terrace with a cafe/bar and a stunning view of the city - they even give you a complementary glass of prosecco to add to the enjoyment. Prague may have swankier, more up market hotels than this but for a short, inexpensive break this hotel is ideal.
