Our old friend of many years (most of this century) and over a dozen stays comes to an end. Only the bell staff remember us as everyone else, including their computer systems, failed to remember our loyalty and history. Newer guests in this international hotel will not know what they missed. Gone are the days of wine and cheese in the afternoon, special greetings for special occasions, and even the trust of payment from return guests (they now charge your credit card for the entire stay plus security deposit upon registration; unheard of anywhere else). Our room experience: Reserved a King Superior and got a Standard King in a bedroom about the sq footage of the entry hall leading to it. No one really knew the difference as not compared to their internet photos. Most, if not all of the rooms have been updated, yet with obvious faults. A nice new shower, yet with a curtain rather than glass to prevent water from wand to escape the confines. No in-room coffee pot, thus requiring more than PJs or less to get your morning coffee in the lobby. The plastic desk chair is more fitting for a patio and makes enough noise in moving to be heard outside the room. Two days into our week, we were changed to the appropriate size room only to find that night that the mattress should have been traded out when every hotel did away with squeaky innerspring mattresses. Too tired to go through another move with the Asst Mgr, as the Mgr was out of town (?) for two weeks, we accepted our fate. The above are facts though in opinion, we feel the management of the Belvedere considers it a privilege to stay with them and has forgotten who is paying who. We remember though and will not return.
