We booked a 3-night stay at the Schani Salon. The location is very convenient and well-connected. The room has a good size. The biggest problem we experienced with the hotel was the poor service. The room wasn't cleaned. The cleaning staff is supposed to do it at some point during the day, but on two days, arriving both times at 3 pm, the room and bathroom were unclean. The other major problem was with breakfast. One morning at 8 am, the food wasn't on the buffet, and we had to ask for things to eat. The second morning at 7 am, there was more food, but no fruit or vegetables. I don't recommend it; it's more like an Airbnb than a hotel.
The best thing about this "hotel" is its location. 10 minute walk from the Museum Quarters and about 20 minutes from the Opera House. It is located on a shopping street, though the brands there are not top of the line. There are lots of food choices nearby also. On the down side, the room was tiny. We had a room with a queen bed for two people, and the headboard was literally just 7 feet from the wall where the TV was mounted, and the entire room was probably only 7 ft x 12 ft. On the website, this is shown as a 4-star hotel, but in reality it should be 1- or 2-star given its facilities. In other cities, this would probably have been called a hostel with private rooms. For the price we paid, this was not what we had expected. I should have read all the reviews before I booked, instead of just looking at the overall rating. Tripadvisor shows that Schani Salon Hotel is #26 out of 396 hotels in Vienna, and that simply cannot be true, given there are plenty of highend hotels in Vienna.
