We knew before we booked that the King Charles hotel was a family run hotel in an historic building on a steep cobbled street just below the Prague castle enclosure (which includes the Presidential Palace and St Vitus Cathedral). We loved the relatively quiet location and the historic nature of the hotel and found the rooms to be bigger than we expected (more like a suite.) We did not mind the long walk up the hill, but it is possible to take a tram to the Hradcany area above and walk down, if one so wishes. The hotel reception is 24 hour, the staff are really pleasant, the hotel is very clean and the breakfasts are excellent! We wanted to eat out in different places each night so the fact the hotel did not offer evening meals/hotel bar facilities did not worry us. (Fridges in the room & comfy armchairs in the sitting areas of the bedrooms were great for chilling out at the end of the day!) The location and nature of the building would not suit those who prefer to be in the busy centre of town or those who prefer a hotel with a range of corporate type facilities. We avoid such places, so it was ideal for us! (Quite an experience to lay in bed and admire painted ceilings and stain glass windows!)
