We had a quiet room at the back of the hotel . The staff were all very friendly and helpful and professional. The Spa is wonderful with amazing massages and treatments ( book in advance as they’re very busy ) Hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking thd sea . 10/10 . We still return to Nice and will definitely re/book
We spent five nights in Nice and expected something rather special from our stay at The Westminster Hotel. In the event, it was a mixture of good and not so good. The hotel itself is lovely. The position in Nice is ideal . Breakfast, the helpful staff and the cleanliness were all exactly what one would expect and hope for in a hotel of this standard. Dining in the hotel was of good quality and quite reasonably priced, so no complaints there. However, the room we booked, a double with balcony, turned out to be much smaller than expected and bore little resemblance to the impression given in photographs on the website. Excluding the entrance corridor and the bathroom, I estimated the usable space at not much more than 150 sq ft. Perhaps for that reason, there was no built-in furniture: just a small table by each side of the bed, two small chairs with nowhere really to put them, and a freestanding dressing table. The bed took up most of the floor space, and there was no chest of drawers and too little wardrobe space for two people's belongings. Hardly room to move comfortably. The bathroom was also poorly designed, with nowhere convenient to hang wet towels and a bath screen that required stepping into the bath to turn on the water. But the worst problem was the external noise. Immediately next door, on the left-hand side as you face the hotel, is what appears to be a nightclub. Our room was close to that end of the building, and the relentless thumping of bass music continued until well past midnight. At times it sounded like a riot outside. Added to this was the almost ceaseless noise from noisy motorbikes and powerful cars along the Promenade, audible even with the French windows closed and electric shutters down. I appreciate that the hotel cannot control its neighbours, but guests might reasonably expect to be warned about such a problem. We had been placed at what was the worst position on the second floor despite booking well in advance. Of course, my mistake was not to complain loudly straight away. I had considered booking a junior suite but, as we planned to be out exploring most days, assumed a double room would be perfectly adequate. In reality, it felt little more than a single room with a large bed. Whether we would stay again? Regrettably, my answer would have to be an emphatic no. We spent approximately €2,600 for five nights at the beginning of October , including breakfast, and for that amount expected considerably better accommodation and sleeping conditions. What a pity. We have travelled the world and know the South of France well. The Westminster has much to recommend it, but a comfortable room and a reasonable night's sleep should not be too much to expect.
