It's a difficult hotel to fault. The location is perfect. But perhaps not the easiest to find-check Google Maps carefully as the Castello area (like all of Venice) is a bit of a maze. This is a real issue especially if you have a lot of luggage. It's at least a 7/8 minute walk from the ferry port to the hotel. The part of the hotel we stayed in was essentially a section of an old Venetian palace with original furnishings and features and a super canal view. It had an authentic, atmospheric feel that most hotels lack these days. There are a number of good restaurants and cafes located in the immediate vicinity of the hotel and Saint Mark's Square is only a few minutes away on foot But, despite its great location and amenities, it is a very peaceful area. The breakfast was great, the staff were super helpful at all times and the daily cleaning of the room was excellent. Two minor complaints-the reception area is tiny and becomes crowded fast. Also choose rooms carefully- if you are elderly or have a physical disability, remember that not all areas of the hotel are served by lifts. Also there are no supermarkets in the surrounding area-the nearest one is the Coop located in the Riva del Carbon (just off St Mark's Sq)
