STG Hotel or St Giles Bedford street London Where do I start Well let’s start the beginning. We arrived late afternoon and met a lovely lady whom I recognised from past visits. St Giles has always been a good hotel with staff who were helpful so I confidently checked in. I quickly realised This is NOT the same hotel in any stretch of the imagination change of owner and branding to STG IN THE ROOM 1. There was no basics for travellers like kettle tea coffee provided we did have a fridge which was a mini wine fridge with a glass front and if the bed didn’t keep you awake the light on the fridge would. 2. The beds were old and springs exposed to the touch also very narrow for standard single bed. 3. Linen was not clean i had what appeared to be blood stains on my pillow cases photos were taken 4. 2 thread bear towels provided for 2 guests and no hand towels 5. Pillow had been washed and to say it was lumpy is an understatement. Photos were taken 6. No hotel phone to reception for assistance in the room any communication is via what’s app and is ignored. Very concerning as anyone can get in a working life and enter the hotel floors. I fear should anyone have a medical emergency there would be no help at all Sadly we only found these issues out once back in the hotel at about 930pm. So after attempting to sleep on the cleaner of the two pillows I dressed and trudged down to meet a Delightful (not) woman on reception who was completely disinterested in helping with any of my concerns. I asked for a spare comforter to place over the springs and was advised that there were none available And no towels available either. I was given a scratchy old blanket I was also advised that there were no spare pillows. I enquired about changing rooms however was advised that the hotel was full so not possible. Towels there is a total shortage of hotel towels as well as toilet paper with guests seen at all times of the day asking for these necessities. We were given 1/2 roll for our 5 day stay Lifts are rediculous for the amount of rooms for best use avoid them in the hours of 730 am to 730 pm. If you do happen to use the fire escape you will make friends to with other guests doing the same thing. I did speak with a lovely staff member who happily moved us to a different room and ensured we had a kettle which we were incredibly grateful for. The hotel needs to look at the processes and safety eg lifts in operation lack of phones in rooms for assistance Also bed and pillow comfort. It was a difficult stay which really affected our enjoyment of London I imagine the same level of care one might expect at a hostel or back packer accommodation.
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY I booked an Excutive Suite for one night was a late Xmas present for bubby as was going to see jance mcdonald in concert. Arrived at hotel at 4.45pm to be faced for a new check in service as they have been taken over by someone and they like many business got rid of staff and replaced with ipads. One young lady at reception. Show me how to check in hot all the way to the end and come up problem with room. So had to wait for someone to start all over again. She could not help so waited 10 minutes for another lady to appear. She started all over again then said oh room needs checking. This was now 5pm. So told to sit and wait so waited 15 minutes then was told room was ready finally. Got to room which was a big suprise no way would I class this as an Excutive suite. The furniture was old and dated. Had to beds in it bathroom was shower over bath when asked for shower only due to husband hip problems. No safe,no fridge,no slippers, gowns which is all stated on their website. So back to reception we go to be told requested are not guaranteed and they are fully booked but give me a minute. Then they found another so called suite with shower only so back to the 7th floor we go. Room was small but did have a fridge and safe, kettle but only coffee provided and not even any milk. The bathroom was tiny and certainly nothing like the photos on the website. Just agreed to stay in it as by now needed to get ready for concert. Went out had a lovely evening came back about 11 and asked at reception for some milk. Lady went off to look came back empty handed and said house keeping will have some in the morning well that's no good wanted a drink now. Just gave up waste of time no one interested they had your money so sod you.
This was my second stay at this hotel. Great location, terrific free breakfast, easy check in with knowledgeable staff in the lobby. As for my room, extremely small with two twin beds. The smallest shower I have ever been in….it was clean and well maintained. And I could leave my bag at the lobby when I went shopping.
