⭐⭐⭐⭐½ Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort – Our 10-Night Stay We booked two rooms at the Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort for our family of five — two adults and three children aged 20, 18 and 14. We booked one Standard Room and one Classic Room and, before arriving, contacted the hotel directly to request that the rooms were located close to each other. Unfortunately, on arrival we discovered that the two rooms were on completely opposite sides of the hotel. This was extremely disappointing, particularly as we had contacted the hotel beforehand specifically about this request. Pajera, the Assistant Manager, did try to help us and was very accommodating, but unfortunately the hotel was at full capacity and there wasn’t anything that could be done. What was interesting was that we weren’t the only guests experiencing this issue, and having read other reviews, it seems to be a recurring problem. I really think the hotel needs to improve communication between the booking team and the people dealing with bookings made externally, as this could prevent a lot of unnecessary disappointment for guests. We decided to sleep on it for 24 hours, and fortunately our children were old enough to be comfortable staying in the other room, so we made the situation work. It’s also important to appreciate just how large this hotel is. It can get very busy around the pool and at breakfast, so if you’re looking for a small, quiet boutique-style hotel, this probably isn’t the place for you. However, despite its size, the hotel is exceptionally well organised and seems to run like clockwork. The staff ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The staff are absolutely fantastic. Every member of staff we encountered was polite, friendly and extremely accommodating. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and they genuinely went out of their way to help whenever they could. Breakfast ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Breakfast was excellent. There are two food stations as well as a dedicated egg and omelette station, with a huge choice of food and excellent quality throughout. Everything was fresh and the breakfast area was immaculately clean. As you’d expect with most European hotels, the bacon isn’t quite the same as English bacon, but even so, it was still very good! The rooms ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ The rooms aren’t huge, but they were more than adequate for what we needed. The bathroom was excellent, with a really spacious shower, and the quality of the toiletries, including the shampoo and moisturiser, was very good. The king-size bed was extremely comfortable. The pillows were also comfortable initially, although they were so soft and fluffy that after sleeping on them your head seemed to disappear into them! We found doubling them up worked perfectly. I’ve also seen a few comments about the wardrobes not closing properly. In our experience, this is simply because the coat hangers are quite wide. If you put the hangers at an angle, the wardrobe closes perfectly. So, in my opinion, this really isn’t something worth complaining about! Pool access ⚠️ My only real criticism, apart from the room allocation issue, would be the walk down to the pool. The lifts are frequent and large enough, but there is still quite a walk and a number of stairs to get down to the pool area. I had recently had a knee operation, so I personally found this difficult at times. I also think families with young children and pushchairs could find it challenging, as we saw a number of families struggling with this during our stay. Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ Despite the initial disappointment with our rooms being so far apart, we had an amazing 10-night stay at the Amfora. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff are fantastic, the food is excellent and, considering its size, the whole operation is incredibly well organised. If the hotel could sort out the communication between its booking team and the external booking channels so that room location requests are properly communicated, I would have no hesitation in giving this hotel full marks. Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and would happily return to the Amfora. Highly recommended.
Great location - lovely walk each evening along the coast to Hvar which is a lively resort. Hotel was excellent rooms were brilliant. WiFi not great. Boat trip to Vis organised through hotel was great. Transfer from airport hotel arranged through hotel which was good. Evening buffet disappointing but we ate in Hvar every other evening
Really nice hotel with modern, well-kept rooms and friendly staff. The pool and pool bar are a nice feature, although people tend to stay around the bar for hours, making it quite difficult to actually access it from the pool. It is very family-oriented, so expect plenty of children around. Breakfast had a large selection and was actually quite good. Food and drink prices were also in line with what you'd expect from other places in Hvar. There is direct beach access, but the beach is public, so you’re not guaranteed to find a spot, especially when it’s busy.
